Do you believe in fairies? (Daily Mail online 14/12/2013)

Do you believe in fairies? Stacey Solomon lifts off in her new role as Tinkerbell in Peter Pan – The Never Ending Story (by Hanna Flint)

Stacey Solomon has reached new career heights…  as Tinker Bell in Peter Pan – The Never Ending Story. The former X Factor contestant – who was runner up in 2009 – landed the magical role for the musical being staged at Birmingham NIA Theatre.

Wearing a silver corset dress with lace up boots and green wings, Stacey, 24, soared across the audience as she sang You Raise Me Up during the show on its opening night.

Speaking of her acting debut, Solomon told the Daily Express: ‘It’s every girl’s dream to play Tinker Bell. My children are over the moon, the can’t wait to see mummy fly. ‘Tinker Bell is quite mischievous, I’m very similar to her. I’m definitely cheeky and I feel like a fairy half the time! Peter Pan is one of my absolute favourite stories,’ the mother-of-two continued. ‘Also, the show looks fantastic – the whole thing is magical.’

One would hope the show looked breathtaking as the production cost more than £10million to create, and will share its magic across the globe for a worldwide tour. But Stacey will only be waving her wand in the UK, as each new country will see a native actress play the role of Tink.

The show boasts a score by Grammy-winning composer Matt Dunkley, but the fantastical show features a variety of pop songs from over the years, from Rod Stewart’s Sailing and Robbie Williams’ Angels to Gilbert & Sullivan’s Pirates Of Penzance and Nessus Dorma by Puccini.

Sandor Sturbl plays the boy who never grew up, Peter, while Scottish-born actress Lilly-Jane Young plays Wendy. Dutch actor  Milan Van Weelden, plays Captain Hook, in a cast filled with actors from a plethora of different nationalities.

Also at the opening night of the new musical wasformer rugby star and Strictly Come Dancing contestant Ben Cohen.

You could almost hear the shattering of expectations across the arena as those anticipating Panto were met with the magnitude of the choreography, special effects and arena anthems. This show redefines ‘Arena Spectacular’ with serious panache and a rather hefty pinch of fairy dust.
